It should be noted that all natural or legal persons holding Macau SAR resident identity cards can apply for Macau patents, while others need to entrust an agency to handle Macau patent applications.

1. After filling out the "Application Form" and "Abstract" forms in Chinese or Portuguese, the applicant should submit the above forms together with attachments to the Economic Bureau and pay the relevant fees;

2. If the application materials meet the requirements and 18 months have passed since the date of filing the application, or 18 months have passed since the date of claiming a certain priority, the relevant application announcement will be published in the second group of the "Macao Special Administrative Region Gazette" published on the first Wednesday of each month. From the date of publication of the announcement to the date of granting the utility patent, any third party may file a written objection to the relevant registration application;

3. The applicant shall submit a substantive examination application to the Economic Bureau within 7 years from the date of filing the main application or divisional application for an invention patent (within 4 years for utility patent registration and within 30 months for design patent application), otherwise the relevant registration application will be rejected;

4. The review report shall be written by a designated entity;

5. After the application is approved, relevant information such as registration number, name of the rights holder, and approval date will be published in Group 2 of the "Macao Special Administrative Region Gazette" published on the first Wednesday of each month;

6. The applicant shall collect the registration certificate from the Economic Bureau within one month after the expiration of the appeal period from the date of publication of the approval for registration in the Macao Special Administrative Region Gazette, or within five working days after receiving the court's final judgment when an appeal is filed, by presenting the original receipt of the paid application fee issued by the Economic Bureau.

The applicant shall submit the application and pay the registration application fee within 8 working days. Within 1 month after payment, the Macao Economic Bureau shall conduct a formal examination. If it meets the standards, the Macao Economic Bureau shall publish the application notice for the Macao design patent in the Macao Special Administrative Region Gazette 12 months from the date of application.

Within 30 months from the date of application, the applicant may submit a request for examination without paying the examiner's fee. During the examination period, if it meets the standards and there are no objections or objections are not established, the Macao Economic Bureau will publish an authorization notice for the Macao design patent in the Macao Special Administrative Region Gazette. If the appeal period of one month after the authorization announcement expires and there is no appeal, a registration certificate can be issued, and the applicant can obtain the Macao Design Certificate issued by the Macao Economic Bureau 1-2 months later.
